The standard deduction amount on your return (Form 1040, line 12e) is incorrect for your filing status.
Review your standard deduction and make sure it is entered correctly.
If you filed as Married Filing Jointly and all of the following apply:
- Neither you nor your spouse is claimed as a dependent
- You checked two boxes for age and/or blindness
- You are not required to itemize deductions
- You did not itemize deductions (Schedule A is not included)
Then you must claim the standard deduction for your filing status and age/blindness selections for the tax year you are filing.
Check the standard deduction amount on Form 1040 and update it if needed.
If you intend to itemize deductions, make sure Schedule A is complete and attached to your return. If Schedule A does not appear when you review or print your return, it was not complete and did not attach.
After making the correction, resubmit your return.
If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options.
