Fix form, calculation, save, print and display problems

Start with the official form instructions and the Free File Fillable Forms line-by-line help. Some fields are manual, some calculate, and some amounts must be moved to another form by you.

  1. Complete every required field in the form or section.
  2. Save the form and review it before you move to another form.
  3. Use a current recommended browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled.
  4. Turn off autofill, pop-up blockers and tracking blockers for the site.
  5. Use the line-by-line instructions for the form and line.

An incomplete form or section may not save, print or transmit.

Review the source lines used in the calculation. Correct the entries, save the form and calculate again.

Some lines require a manual entry. The software does not calculate every amount. Use the line-by-line page to see whether a field is manual, calculated or transferred.

Some amounts transfer automatically. Other amounts require you to enter the value on the destination form or line.

Find the source form and line in the line-by-line instructions and follow the transfer instruction exactly.

  1. Use Print Return before you transmit.
  2. Compare the printed forms with the forms listed in My Tax Forms.
  3. Complete forms you intend to file and delete forms that should not transmit.
  4. Use a current recommended browser and a supported PDF reader.

A document that does not print with the return may be incomplete and may not transmit.

Return to the form and complete all required fields. Save, then print the return again.

Review the entire printed return. Some incomplete forms may print, so compare the printout with My Tax Forms and the information you entered.

  • Use a current recommended browser and operating system.
  • Set the browser language to its default.
  • Use the recommended font size and display settings.
  • Enable JavaScript and cookies.
  • Turn off pop-up blockers, tracking blockers and autofill for the site.

Review the current minimum computer requirements.

Use the delete option in My Tax Forms for a form or schedule you do not intend to file. Confirm the deletion, then print the return again and make sure the form is no longer included.

If the form cannot be deleted or returns after you remove it, note the form or schedule name and contact form support.

Review the current forms and limitations page. Free File Fillable Forms cannot attach documents unless the attachment is available in the program.

Use another e-file provider or another filing method when a required form, statement or attachment is not supported. Forms and program limitations

Contact form support after you complete the steps above and confirm that the issue is not listed as a known software issue.

Include the form or schedule, line number, exact message, operating system, browser and browser version. Do not send personal or financial information.
