Disregard the erroneous penalty letter received before September 1, 2023

As a result of a programming error in the IRS system that receives Forms 8955-SSA, erroneous IRS penalty letters, CP 283-C, were sent out to plan sponsors who filed the 2022 Form 8955-SSA, indicating a late or incomplete filing of Form 8955-SSA. Plan sponsors should disregard any erroneous penalty notices dated prior to September 1, 2023, and if there are any questions, please contact the IRS at 877-829-5500. Finally, as a reminder to Form 8955-SSA filers, these forms are filed with the IRS and not with DOL through the EFAST2 System. If a Form 8955-SSA is filed in EFAST2, it will not be treated as timely filed by the IRS.
