  • Live chat with IRS Direct File customer support in English and Spanish.
  • Prepare and file from a smartphone, laptop, tablet or desktop computer.
  • Direct deposit their refund or make a tax payment online.

IRS Free File

IRS Free File is a fast, safe and free way to file federal tax returns online. Each IRS Free File partner sets its own eligibility standards generally based on income, age and state residency. All taxpayers who meet the $84,000 adjusted gross income limit will find at least one free product to use.

This tax preparation software is available to help taxpayers and families:

Free File Fillable Forms, the electronic version of IRS paper forms, is available with no income limit. The FFFF product is best for anyone who’s comfortable preparing their own taxes. Some products are available in Spanish.

MilTax

The Department of Defense offers MilTax online software, which is available for military families, military retirees and some veterans. Eligible taxpayers can use MilTax to prepare and electronically file their federal tax returns and up to three state returns for free.
