Fiscal year Agency financial reports

Each November the IRS publishes its fiscal year financial activities and accomplishments in its Financial Report, Publication 5456.

FY 2023 Agency Financial Report

In fiscal year 2023, with the resources entrusted to the IRS by Congress and the Administration to support its mission, the IRS managed more than:

  • $4.7 trillion in tax revenue
  • $659 billion in refunds
  • $574 billion in unpaid assessments

The agency financial report provides information including the IRS Management’s Discussion and Analysis, audited financial statements and other information.

FY 2022 Agency Financial Report

In fiscal year 2022, the IRS managed more than:

  • $4.9 trillion in tax revenue
  • $642 billion in refunds
  • $602 billion in unpaid assessments
  • Resources that support its mission

In addition, Congress and the Administration entrusted the IRS with $79.4 billion in supplemental funding through 2031 to implement the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
